Why
our program is the best choice for you:

Focus On
Teaching
Our focus is on music
instruction. We do not sell or rent band and
orchestra instruments. This gives us the opportunity to
specialize in one thing only--providing the
highest-quality musical instruction for your family.
Professional,
Licensed Educators
All of our
Kindermusik instructors must complete a rigorous
training program in order to become licensed to teach.
Once licensed, instructors attend regular training sessions and must
meet several requirements on a yearly basis to maintain their
status. We promote accountability and personal growth
amongst our staff, as all instructors observe and evaluate other
teachers' classes and are, in turn, observed and
evaluated each year. Our instructors
share a belief that education is a lifelong process and, thus, are
committed to the continual updating and improvement of
their teaching techniques.
Multiple
Instructors
Many other programs
are built around just one teacher, so if your child is
incompatible with him/her, your only choices are either
to live with it or quit. Our staff features
several educators, each with their own unique talents and
strengths, so it is easy to find one compatible with
your child's temperament and learning style.
We Practice
What We Preach
Our instructors have
been very active in the Kindermusik
program with their own children. We recognize how
important it is for our children to experience the
one-on-one time and other benefits of Kindermusik
classes that our other students receive, so those of us
with young children have each made a point of attending
a class led by an instructor other than ourselves.
Limited Class
Sizes
All of our classes
have a minimum and maximum requirement for enrollment,
in order to provide the optimum environment for
learning. This allows for every instructor to give
individual attention to each student, and for each
student (and parent) to build trust and rapport with
their instructor. Classes smaller than a certain
number do not provide the proper group experience, and
classes larger than appropriate can be overwhelming and
overly busy. We never continually add extra
students to a class simply because we can.
Age-Appropriate Setting
We take great care in preparing an
appropriate environment for young children, with a plain
classroom free of as many distractions as
possible. We keep instruments and other supplies
up and out of reach of little hands until the time comes to use
them, so that all participants are able to focus solely
on the activity at hand.
Parental
Involvement
Kindermusik
recognizes that parents are their child's most
important teacher, so each class has an element of parental
participation. In the younger classes, parents are
present the entire time, while in the older classes parents
attend the last 10-15 minutes of each session for
Sharing Time. We like to think of
Kindermusik classes
as being two classes in one; a class for the child, as
well as a class for the parent to
learn new activities
and ways to bond with their child.
Quality Supplemental
Materials
In order to learn
appropriately, children must have repetition,
repetition, repetition. Attending a weekly class is just one component
of experiencing this repetition. Children must also
be given the opportunity outside of class to listen and
sing along to the songs, as well as do the activities
they have experienced in class. Every student
enrolled in a Kindermusik class receives a
professionally-made materials set
specifically for at-home use. These home materials are
highly effective because they are presented in a format that is
appealing to
children: bright colors, attractive, well laid out.
Each age-appropriate kit contains full-length CDs, a musical instrument,
literature books, family activity books, and an
imaginative-play component.
Variety of
Music
New brain connections
are made when children hear unfamiliar sounds. We
incorporate a wide variety of
styles of music, from
folk songs to fiddle tunes, from Asian to Appalachian,
from the far north to the deep south, which all
stimulate brain development. We also sing much of
our music a capella (unaccompanied), because children
learn to match pitch more easily when they can clearly
hear the melody.
Research-Based
From the literature
books to the finger plays, from the chants to the songs,
every aspect of the Kindermusik
curriculum has been
thoroughly researched and tested, incorporating the best
practices in child development
study. Elements
of our curriculum incorporate the philosophies of Maria
Montessori, Carl Orff, Zoltan Kodaly, Emile
Jacque-Dalcroze, Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget, and others.
Children learn best through fun, imaginative play, so class
activities are structured in a manner which is most
conducive to learning. You can rest assured that every component
and activity is having a direct, healthy and powerful impact on your
child's development.
